Salvatore Piccolo, admitted drug dealer and alleged South Jersey mobster, has hit the road from his federal prison cell in Middle Pennsylvania and is now being held at the Federal Bureau of Prisons minimum security lock up in Seagoville, Texas after spending a week at the BOP’s transit center in Oklahoma City.
The 70 year old Piccolo, aka “Sammy”, has been housed at FCI Schuykill since he was sentenced in October 2019 to 12.5 years in federal prison as part of a New Jersey based, Mob related, drug investigation by the FBI and U.S. Attorney’s Office out of Newark.
It is unknown at this time why Piccolo, who is from Atlantic City, was moved and if FCI Seagoville is his final destination.
Piccolo’s travels come as his nephew, Mob Captain Domenic Grande, has been scheduled for a change of plea hearing in May as part of a Philadelphia Mob Racketeering conspiracy case following his arrest in November 2020 on racketeering conspiracy, extortion and drug charges.
As Mobtalksitdown, com reported last week, Grande is now expected to plead guilty to racketeering conspiracy and drug charges. He could face 10-15 years if convicted at trial.
While his attorney, Brian McMonagle, refused comment on these recent developments, Mob sources say Grande is expected to be sentenced to somewhere in the range of 6-7 years behind bars if the plea agreement is executed by Grande and approved by federal Court Judge Barclay Surrick.
According to sources, Piccolo, who was not charged in the November 2020 Philadelphia Racketeering Conspiracy case, was present at an October 11, 2015 Mob induction ceremony attended by Grande and 12 other top ranking Philadelphia LCN leaders.
Sources say the induction ceremony was “consensually recorded” by a confidential FBI informant who attended the ceremony and was reportedly inducted into the Philly Mob along with Piccolo that day during the ceremony at a home in South Philadelphia.
The tape-recorded ceremony is expected to be the centerpiece of the government’s case against the defendants charged in this Philly case and future cases.
In one part of the ceremony, indicted former Mob Underboss Steven Mazzone reportedly said, “You’re with Domenic, Sammy, You’re with Domenic.” Allegedly indicating that Piccolo would be part of Grande’s Mob crew and answer or report back to Grande.
In another part of the tape-recorded conversation, Piccolo and the government’s witness reportedly had the following exchange:
Witness: If JM was smart, he’d stay out there, know what I mean?
Piccolo: Nobody mentioned his name.
Witness: I know right, absolutely.
Piccolo: Right
Witness: Yeah, why do you think?
Piccolo: Because he’s smart.
Witness: Smart, Yeah.
Piccolo: The other guy was…..You remember
Witness: Yeah
Attempts to reach Piccolo’s attorney of record on the New Jersey drug case, Lou Barbone, were not responded to. Mobtalksitdown.com will continue to update this developing story.
