Well respected, Scarfo Era standup guy “Charlie White” Iannece passed away this week, according to Mobtalksitdown.com sources.
Iannece, 85, was described by one local Mob watcher as “the best. There’s not many like him.” A former wiseguy described Iannece as a “real character. He was a good guy to be around.”
“A man of his word,” another former mobster said. “If he told you he was going to do something, He did it.”
Charlie White, a soldier in the Scarfo Crime Family during the 1980s, was convicted in 1988 along with the ruthless Nicky Scarfo Sr. and 15 others on racketeering conspiracy charges including murders, extortion and other crimes. Most of the defendants got 40-year sentences.
A year earlier, Iannece, Scarfo Sr, Francis “Faffy” Ianarella, Salvatore “Chucky” Merlino and Mob Underboss Phillip Leonetti were acquitted of charges they tried to take over the local meth market by importing over 100 gallons of P2P, a precursor used to make meth or speed.
Two Scarfo made members, mobsters turned cooperators Thomas DelGiorno and Nicholas Caramandi, testified against their old mates, but the jury didn’t buy the case.
The 5’10”, 210 lb Iannece was released from federal prison in May of 2011 after serving 24 years behind bars. He has been seen by law enforcement visiting a local mob clubhouse several times in recent years with his son Vincent. Most say he lived his life quietly since being released from prison.
FBI records indicate Iannece was inducted into the local mafia by Scarfo during a making ceremony in 1984 in Montgomery County.
